Irbesartan is an angiotensin II receptor inhibitor, angiotensin II receptors are divided into AT1, AT2. Irbesartan by selectively blocking the AT1 receptor of AnglII, it can inhibit the conversion of AngI into AngII, and can specifically antagonize the ACE 1 receptor (AT1). Irbesartan's antagonistic effect on AT1 is 8500 times that of AT2, which inhibits vasoconstriction and the release of aldosterone by selectively blocking AngII's binding to AT1 receptors, resulting in a hypotensive effect.
Irbesartan does not inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), renin, other hormone receptors, nor do they inhibit ion channels associated with blood pressure regulation and sodium balance. Irbesartan can also reduce the electrical remodeling of the myocardium, thereby reducing the mortality rate of hypertensive patients, and is currently the most effective drug for the treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases.
