Succimer is a chelating agent widely used to study lead poisoning.
2,3-Dimercaptosuccinic acid is an organosulfur compound that is a white crystalline powder at room temperature. Because the molecule contains two sulfhydryl groups, it has the characteristic odor of sulfhydryl compounds. Both dimercaptosuccinic acid and its sodium salt can be used as an antidote to the treatment of heavy metal poisoning by mouth or injection. Dimercaptosuccinic acid has two diastereomers, one is a racemate and the other is a racemate. Racemates can be used as chelating agents, and their sodium salts are commonly used.
